VINCENZO PANORMO VIOLIN PARIS 1780
A fine violin made by Vincenzo Panormo. It bears its original label and is dated Paris 1780. It is accompanied by two certificates – an early certificate by W E Hill & Sons and a later certificate dated 2005 from J & A Beare. In the latter certificate, Charles Beare states that “in our judgement, the work of Vincenzo Panormo, the Italian maker who worked in Paris”. “a fair and characteristic example of the maker’s work”.

JOSEPH HEL OF LILLE VIOLIN
GUSTAVE BERNARDEL VIOLIN PARIS 1900
A very fine and almost mint condition violin by Gustave Bernardel of Paris. This violin bears it’s original label dated Paris 1900. The violin is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from Millant of Paris.
This is one of the purest examples of this makers work I have seen.

CESARE MAGGIALI VIOLIN ITALY 1959
C THOUVENOT VIOLIN EARLY 20
This violin is modelled and inspired by G B Guadagnini and has been given the appearance of antiquity by the maker. Thouvenot was trained in Mirecourt France as a maker later moving to the UK working firstly for W E Hill & Sons then later for J & A Beare. He had access to the finest instruments to study as a maker which is evident in this fine instrument.

GEORGE CRASKE VIOLIN CIRCA 1850’S
The English Violin Maker Goerge Craske is recognised as one of our most prolific makers. Schooled in making by William Forster and possibly John Lott, the latter no doubt being responsible for his proclivity to mild antiquing. This violinbearing the “sold by W E Hill & Sons” label is modelled loosely on Guarneri del Gesu.

A member of a long line of fine violin makers in Mittenwald Germany who was principally inspired by Jacobus Stainer. This is a is great example and bears the maker’s original label dated 1778

VIOLIN LABELLED CHARLES DUBOIS 1924
The name Charles Dubois is a Trade name adopted by Beare and Sons, who imported Violins etc., from France and Germany around the start of the 20th Century. This instrument is probably imported by B & S from Markneukirchen and is dated 1924.

THOMAS CRAIG VIOLIN 1893
An excellent violin bearing Thomas Craig’s label – Craig’s celebrated High Class Violins, numbered 141 dated 1893 and bears Thomas Craig’s initials. This is an attractive violin with superb figured maple for the back, ribs and head. Craig of Aberdeen enjoyed a great reputation for good instruments.
